If you ever want to be in love is an indie pop song written by James Bay in 2015. This music video consists of a very simple one. Indie pop music videos are known for being low budget and this one is. It is set up in a studio which is one of the most common settings that indie pop music videos are filmed in. He is giving a small and very personal concert as not too many people are shown, this shows how personal and intimate this type of genre and the atmosphere is.
The majority of indie pop music videos include a performance from the artist which is the case of this video, by this, the artist is enabling the audience to see the familiar and personal atmosphere he has created in one of his concerts and therefore promoting himself and encouraging people watching the video to attend one of his concerts. Another feature of this genre is how they tend to focus on the artist's talent; close ups help to show the artist's emotions and in this video, this is done by using close ups of his face and showing all of his face expressions which demonstrate how he is feeling every word he is saying and how passionate he is about music.
In addition, this video is a clear example of lack of narrative, the only purpose of this video is to show what the artist transmits to the audience watching him and appealing to the people watching the video. It doesn't tell any story, it's only focused on the artist to audience relationship and demonstrating the artist's talent by only focusing on the band playing the instruments and the singer.
Moreover, natural lightening is used, the studio has big windows so the natural light gets through, it is clear it was filmed intentionally in the afternoon to catch the sunset and give it an orange colour showing a vintage vibe which matches with the indie pop theme.
Once again, the sound is trying to enforce the idea that there is a very familiar atmosphere. Diegetic sound of audience singing, clapping and cheering is used to represent what a good time they are having and how much they are enjoying themselves. There is a part when he lets the audience sing which shows his audience is an important part of his journey as a singer.
Bungalow is another indie pop song written by Scott Helman in 2014. This music video is much more different in comparison to the previous one.
This video is set up in the woods, a setting which is also very common to use in indie pop music videos. In contrast to Jame's Bay music video, this one does have a narrative and tells a story between a couple. The narrative is rather peculiar because of the fact that it literally follows what the lyrics say. An example of this is when the lyrics say "give me a moment" and the actress literally gives him a wooden figure which spells the word "moment". Because of this, props play a huge role in this music video because everything the lyrics say appears in a literal way.
The lightening in this video is not natural. The effect they used throughout the whole video as well as in If you ever want to be in love gives a vintage vibe.
The sound too has nothing special, it consists of the song playing in the background during the whole video following the narrative.
