Mise en scene:

The mise en scene varies through the whole video. I decided to have inside locations and outside locations in order to have a variety of settings. It starts with a time lapse of the sun going down in order to introduce the night which will have a meaning when the next shot of the party comes. The next scene after the party shows how her heels, a bottle of water and clothes are lying all over the floor to symbolise she had just gone to a party and it has been a total chaos.

I didn't use many props other than a microphone and a bottle of alcohol. The microphone was to make the scene when she is simply singing in the black screen much more realistic as if she was actually using a microphone to sing like a real artist.

The clothes I picked for this was a simple black t shirt to go with the background and therefore highlight her face. The red lips were so that her face would catch even more attention.

The bottle was an essential prop because basically the whole song talks about problems with alcohol so I wanted to have it very present. I used the bottle at the begging when the room is messy, the next scene when she wakes up and starts to drink and them used clips of her drinking towards the end in order to remind people again of the key message of the song.

I clearly wanted to have a room as a setting because it was key in some parts of the story, when she wakes up, when her boyfriend disappears and when she is singing to her fans. I picked my mum's room because it had perfect lightening.

The clothes I picked for this was a simple large t shirt to give the real impression that she had gone out the night before and just grabbed anything to wear as a pijama.

The outside setting consisted of a park in the middle of the forest, I though it was perfect for the idea that I had which was basically filming her walking and singing at the same time plus aesthetically it looked great. First of all I had the idea of filming down the road but we had to change it because of the amount of cars that drove past. Plan B was the park and finally the filming was successful, the lighting was perfect because the day was a bit grey so it matched the whole theme of the song.

The outfit for this whole scene was very basic too, a turtle neck jumper with a black jacket on top, again using dark clothes to match the songs theme.

Editing:

The more complex editing starts right at the begging of the video after the sunset. I decided to insert a glitch to go along with the sound. Every time a bang came, came a glitch with a black screen. What I wanted to do with this was to convey idea when a happy moment came, a bad thing happened right before, symbolising her battle with the alcohol, which in this case is the glitch.

I joined many scenes together separated by glitches but made them short in order for it to look fast and impacting. The sound also creates a lot of tension as a lot of things are going on at the same time. After these 30 seconds of tension, I added a black screen with another type of glitch different to the rest in order to give even more tension and then release this tension with a shot of her eyes which matched the sound of heavy breathing.

After all of this, the editing is simple, she is only 'singing' and looking straight at the camera. Shots are separated by different types of transitions, between different shots goes a fade to black, to introduce a flashback goes a white flash in order to give the flashback vibe and to change the shot of the part when she is just singing I used a regular fade. The flashback scenes have a different effect as the rest of the video in order to get through the idea that it is a flashback. This effect was available in the editing program I used to edit this which was iMovie. Its name is "old".

Furthermore, in the next scene when she talks about her future love, I used clips filmed from a phone with worse quality on purpose in order to give the sense of authenticity. People will then understand that she 'filmed' this when she was truly happy and in love.

The next scene is when she says "for the man that left my bed", this scene was a bit more challenging to edit because I had to make him disappear from the bed. In order to do this, I filmed a clip with both of them lying in bed and then another one where only she was lying in bed. This was challenging because of the fact that everything had to be the same, the sheets couldn't move, she had to be in the same posture and the camera could not move at all in order to join the clips and look like he disappeared naturally. I joined both clips and added a fade and that is how I got that effect.

In addition, the scene when she says "I'm sorry for the fans I lost who watched me fall again I wanna be a role model but I'm only human" I decided to use found footage from an artist's concert in order to give it a more realistic and professional sense. I used 3 shots of fans waiting to go inside the concert and applied the flashback filter and added some slow motion to give it more emotion.

Next location was at a park in the woods, this whole scene is composed by her singing and some flashback. In the last moment I decided to add something else and so I decided to add another flashback but this time in a different way. While she says "I don't know I don't know I don't know I don't know why I do it every every every time" I took advantage of the extra shots I filmed in the bathroom and created a short clip with glitches of her lying on the floor with a bottle of alcohol looking exhausted desperate and confused. I added the glitches to emphasise that she remembers this moments as something very negative.

The last editing I did towards the end of the video was the same as the begging, I kept adding flashbacks with the same transition (white fade) and changing shots with regular fades and having the same effect for the flashbacks.
