Props and costumes

Props are items used in plays, movies, and TV programs. Props are used to keep plays, movies and TV programs more realistic. There are so many types of props and are used in different ways. Visual objects of each film, as important as the story, characters, sound, and cinematography.

The different types of props I used are the following:

Set props:

These work along with the other technical elements of the play to establish time period, place and income levels of characters. For these types of props I used the photos around the room and in the bathroom I basically left the props which were already there for example all the creams and the toothbrushes in order to give it a more realistic touch.

Hand props:

These items are used directly by actors during the video. This type of prop can help establish a specific character. In my case, the main hand prop I used was the bottle of alcohol because it was obviously a key thing in the video as the whole lyrics talk about the characters fight with alcohol. Another example of this props were the photos I used of when she was a baby when she is looking at them with her mum.

Decorative props:

These props are also known as set dressing and are mainly details to make the setting more realistic. An example of this prop in my music video is the part when she is just sitting down and singing. I used a microphone for this scene in order to make it more realistic and to show that she was in a studio. This was also used because it is a conventional piece of equipment in a music studio. This prop will be used within our lip syncing scene.

Costumes:

Different types of costumes were used throughout the video and each of them was chosen for the following reasons:

Muggy T-Shirt (men):

The purpose I used this outfit for in the scene when she wakes up the morning after the party was because normally when people get home after a party they just put anything on to go to sleep so I had this big sized shirt which I think would follow this convention perfectly.

Basic black T-Shirt:

This outfit was chosen in order to make contrast with the black background. I had to position her as far away from the black screen as possible in order to camouflage the shirt even more. This was done because I wanted her face to be the thing that stood out the most.

White turtle-neck sweater + black denim jacket:

This costume is quite a conventional outfit for a female as this type of costume can been seen in many outside-set videos for example Taylor Swift's Safe & Sound feat. The Civil Wars music video. Furthermore, this outfit is also quite a fashionable costume as this is the current trend with teenagers and young outfits therefore choosing this outfit would allow the viewers to relate to the main character.
