The importance of social media

Right now we live in a world where social media plays a big role in our lives. For public characters it is essential to get people to know them, to share their lives and to keep their audience updated about what is going on in their lives or professional career.

From the research I did, every single artist has a social media account, some manage these accounts themselves but others prefer a specialised person to manage it for them.

This is why I had to create an Instagram account for my artist, Ink Ridge. I chose Instagram because it is the biggest social media platform at the moment and it is the one which allows you to be closer to your audience. This is where I will be posting all of the updates about the music video and her album.

The username consists of her name which's meaning I explained in a post you can check out in this blog. Naming the artist.

The photo is a simple one from the digipak's photoshoot. I edited the photo in black and white to follow the theme. From my research I noticed that every artist tends to have the most recent updates about their music in the biography and that is why I decided to put the album coming out date so people who follow her can be 'updated'.

The next step was to post the first ever post. I decided to post a sneak peak of the beginning of the music video because I think it created a lot of tension and hype so it has an impact on people and they want to watch more. Again I decided to use a black screen as the theme is very dark.

This video reached a total of 116 views in two days which in my opinion is a great start compared to the number of followers. It had a good feedback as the audience was engaged. It got two comments saying how excited they were to watch the whole thing.

My second post was to promote her album, the promotional poster was designed on photoshop. I added the platforms it will be available on, a photo of her and the name of the album. I also linked the website so people can check it out and 'pre-order' it.

A YouTube channel was also an essential thing to have as my final edit is going to be uploaded there. I had to design a banner for her channel in order for it to look professional and realistic. I used photoshop to do this, using a banner template from the internet I started designing the banner. All the YouTube channels I looked at had other social media accounts linked, the name of the artist and a photo of the artist. To design this I used a photo from the digipak's photoshoot and added a black and white effect as the banner's background is black. Furthermore, I added her name in big bold letters so it stands out. I used the same font I used for the digipak and the merchandising. The next thing I did was adding the different logos of the social media accounts she has such as instagram or Spotify. All of this was done on photoshop as I find it easier to edit there and it allows me to work with different layers at the same time.
